Jasmine Curtis inked a three-year exclusive contract with TV5

Jasmine Curtis inked a three-year exclusive contract with TV5, December 20.

She was formally introduced to the public as one of Kapatid network's newest star three weeks ago at the Christmas party for the entertainment press held at the Broadway Centrum. (CLICK HERE to read related story.)

Jasmine is the younger sister of Kapamilya actress and TV host Anne Curtis.

She is based in Melbourne, Australia where she is still finishing her studies as an 11th grader.

Present at the contract signing were TV 5 executives, led by TV5 President Atty. Ray Espinosa, Vice President Bobby Barreiro, and Perci Intalan, who heads the Creative and Entertainment Production of the network.

Jasmine is co-managed by Betchay Vidanes, Robin Padilla's manager, and W Talent Management.

She starts work for Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum today, December 21, with a story conference. She will star opposite JC de Vera, who will reprise the role made popular by Robin Padilla.

Part of the series will be shot in Australia and she hopes that everyone will watch out for it.

Jasmine felt relieved that she's finally signed her first television contract.

She's happy to be able to join the TV5.

"I'm really happy to join the Kapatid network kasi they're giving me the opportunity to grow with both my education and as well as my future career."

BALANCING ACT. She's staying in the country until February for her vacation from school.

"Fortunately, TV5, talagang nag-adjust sila for my education and they're working around my school commitments. They know when I'm free.

"And also, I'm committed to coming here whenever I'm free and work for them," said Jasmine.

This early though, she wants to balance both her studies and her budding showbiz career.

"You know what, we agreed upon being committed to both. If one starts taking over the other, I guess I would really have to consider which one is really more important.

"And for me, as much as I love this industry this early, and as much as I am prioritizing it as well, education is something that you should really have the time for no matter what."

LEARNING FROM ATE ANNE. She realizes that her big sister Anne has made things a lot easier for her entry into showbiz.

"She started as no one in this industry. She started as a girl who would just say 'opo' in one movie. And now, she has all the lines in the movie, di ba?

"Since I experienced things before through my ate, I see her working a lot. I thought it's way too hard and it's nothing that I'm interested in.

"But as I grew up, I got to experience drama in school plays, I also enjoyed it more.

"I saw that it's not about how much sleep you don't get, but it's about kung gaano mo siya nae-enjoy. Showbiz is hard but it's very rewarding."

The 16-year-old Jasmine knows that comparisons with her Ate Anne is inevitable.

"I think it's good that we get compared kasi if not, the same lang kami. Parang wala kaming ibang mao-offer.

"Maganda din na we have our own different qualities. It just means that we have different things to offer and we can be very flexible with the work that we get," said Jasmine.

BIG EXPECTATIONS. She hopes not to set an image that is not far from what her Ate Anne is right now.

"She's such a great role model for everyone including the young teens. I guess I just want to be a great example to everyone to the younger ones.

"As I said, education is still important to me and I want to get that message across to everyone kasi it's something that you'll treasure for life."

She knows that a lot is expected from her.

"All I can promise na ide-deliver ko talaga ang pinaka-best ko. I'm giving my whole heart to this. It's not just a side thing.

"Expect the best from me and I hope that I can execute that. Let's just pray that it all goes well," she said.

Jasmine added, "I'm just open to anything that is offered to me. Whatever is there for me, I'm willing to do it. And I'm willing to experience anything."

To get herself prepared, she is attending acting workshops to hone and improve her acting skills.

"I've been plunging myself into it nga talaga. It's been tiring.

"It's a good experience because I get to see all the different sides of acting and also how to portray a role.

She's leaving the "singing" to her Ate Anne though.

"You know what, hilig ko din kumanta, pero alam ko naman that it's not for me.

"Magda-dance na lang ako!" she laughed.

"Kanya na yun [yung pagkanta]," Jasmine added.

"You know it's good na talagang... She knows naman na she's not Lea Salonga.

"It's good that she's got in her to give her heart to something that she loves to do kahit na she knows na she's not the best.

"In her heart, she knows that she's the best and that's what makes her happy."
