He who honors his father is gladdened by children, and when he prays he is heard. In word and deed honor your father that his blessings may come upon you. Sirach 3:5, 8. His name is Frederick. He is my dad. And I am proud to say out loud that I have been blessed to have a father like him. Who should not? Let me tell you something about my dad. He likes to watch worldwide news and current affairs. He likes to watch National Geographic, Animal Planet and Discovery Channel. He is super-talented in fixing everything… from mechanical, to electrical to carpentry. He is even good in cooking food. He likes to collect different breeds of birds. In fact you could have mistaken our house as Aviary. Hehehe… But more than that let me enumerate my dad’s good traits. He is pious Catholic. He is an obedient son. He is well-loved son in-law. He is a good conversationalist to his brothers and sisters in-law. He is like a second father to his nephews and nieces. He is a respected eldest brother. He is a faithful husband. He is a good provider to us. He is a spoiling grandfather to our Collette. He is the confidante of his friends. My dad is really one of a kind. My dad is an ever-supporting dad. He supports us in everything we do. I remember that he even drove me all the way to Mariveles, Bataan just to accompany me during those job-hunting days. Even to my siblings, he will drive us anywhere to accompany us to places we are not familiar of. He will do the best he can to supports us in all our endeavors in life. My dad is a generous and loving dad. As much as he can, he will give us everything we asked for. During those times, we are up to date to the latest gaming gadgets from Atari to Play station. He even gave me his eco-drive watch as a gift from finishing college and passing board exam at the same time. Even up to now, he will cook my breakfast and sometimes gives me money before I go to work. My dad is a compassionate dad. Whenever there are street children and/or aged people asking for alms, he will give some of his coins for them. Book of Tobit will explain you why. My dad is a wise dad. I learned so much from him. It is by listening to him that you will gain knowledge and wisdom on what life is all about. He is full of wisdom. It makes my life more worthwhile and meaningful. His sharing about the life of Daniel, Tobit, David and Solomon inspires me to become a better Christian and Daughter of God. My dad is an honest dad. He is honest in his dealings with lots of people. Being an OFW for a long time, he told me that there are lots of temptations and bribery at work, especially when it involves money. But he deals with them fair and square. My dad is a father who will always be there for you. He always stood beside me. He would always say encouraging words. He joins me in praying that I may pass ECE board exam. The best time of my life is when I graduate from college and passed the board exam. And there he was, together with my mom, both brimming with great pride. In one of the most heart-breaking and depressing moments of my life, he was there. He did not ask what happen. He silently shares my pain. But his words I will never forget: “No matter how painful and heart-breaking it is, empty out all emotions, and just let it go.” Today is my Dad’s 62nd Birthday. And I am praying that may he live longer life.

To you Dadi, Thank you for all the love and support. Thank you for being with us and for being a great father to us. All your teachings and wisdom I will never forget. Though most of the time, I feel that I should always live up to You and Mami’s high expectations, now I understand that it really makes me a better person. Because of that, whatever struggles I am facing, whatever challenges comes my way, this focus me on winning and finishing the race. Where I am now, whatever I become, all of this because of your unconditional guidance, love and support. For me, you are one of the BEST DAD in the entire universe. I love you Dadi!
