Kris earned P300M during 5-yr marriage to James Yap

MANILA, Philippines – The separation of estranged couple Kris Aquino and James Yap is expected to heat up further once they take up the division of their multi-million marital assets or property.

According to a court insider who read Aquino’s 11-page petition, President Benigno Aquino's youngest sister declared an income of more than P300 million in the past 5 years that she has been married to the basketball star.

Yap, on the other hand, earned more than P20 million, the court insider said.

The couple also owns a multi-million peso condominium in Makati where they moved in after selling their Valle Verde home in Pasig City.

According to Yap, they did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement when they got married in 2005.

As early as now, speculations are abound that Yap, a professional basketball player, has refused to sign Aquino's petition to nullify their marriage purportedly because he is demanding a huge amount of money and property from Aquino.

However, Yap’s camp has maintained that there is no truth to the rumors.

Yap and Aquino are among the high-profile couple celebrities in the country.

Meanwhile, a court is set to hear Yap's petition on Friday. He asked a court to grant him rights to visit his child, 3-year-old Baby James.

Lawyer Anne Sharlyne Goboy-Lapuz, Aquino's lawyer, said Yap is entitled to resort to all legal remedies available to him.

“We actually expected him to file a motion for visitation. As to whether Ms. Kris is amenable to visitation, she has no objections whatsoever. Both parties will just have to agree on the time and other arrangements,” the lawyer said in a text message to ABS-CBN News.

As to the issue of Baby James using his mother’s surname after the nullity of their marriage, she said that “we did not ask for it to spite Mr. Yap.”

“It is a legal consequence of the declaration of nullity of the marriage of the parties,” she explained.

Aquino has been advised by her lawyers not to talk about the case.

Yap, on the other hand, said he has never criticized his wife in public.

“Ever since naman quiet ako kahit anong pinag-aawayan namin. Talagang wala kayong maririnig sa amin,” he said. -Report from Marie Lozano, ABS-CBN News
